"Heads Up!"

A beautiful raptor - the Harris Hawk. I did this piece with 1/2" pastel stumps, except for the beak tip, lore hairs and eye. Quite a challenge. I might try this again using pencils so I can capture all the feather details.
I visited the LA Zoo this past weekend and was very disappointed with nearly all the exhibits except for the Bird show. The Harris Hawk was only presented for a minute but the speaker mentioned something I had never heard before. Harris Hawks actually stand on each others' shoulders to gain a better vantage point for hunting. I did some research and it's a technique called "Back Standing" or "Stacking." I have not been able to locate a photo though. If you have one I would love to see how they look as I think this would make for a wonderful painting.
