"It Must Be Fall"

Acorn Woodpeckers are found where oak trees are common in parks, cities and towns. They live in small noisy colonies, up to 16. In the fall they drill holes in what is termed a "granary tree" to store acorns. Trees have thousands and thousands of acorns stored. During the summer they eat mostly insects.
This piece was done with pastels on Bristol. I felt like I was overworking the piece, bad habit, so I stopped. I wish they'd invent a pastel paper with tooth that didn't have those ugly little bumps all over it - I'd certainly give that a try. I love working on the smooth Bristol, but it really doesn't hold layers very well.
