"Curious"

I was sitting on the bank of a small river in Ohio - just enjoying the view and watching the birds. I was also tossing little pieces of a broken twig into the river. All of a sudden, out of the reeds, swims this very curious female wood duck. She stayed long enough to realize I wasn't tossing anything to eat, and for me to take a photo or two. So very pretty.

This is pastel on cold pressed watercolor paper. I toned the background with pastel stumps from England. Then realized there were toxic!! Be careful when using pastels, some have quite a bit of cadmium and are very toxic. Better to use the non-toxic types, it's just more comfortable than having to wear gloves and a mask.
