"Angles & Shadows"

I am often asked how I go about choosing the subjects I draw or paint. Most of the time I am concentrating on presenting the species as accurately as possible, the surroundings are not as important to me. Sometimes though, a particular scene really catches my eye, especially one with interesting angles and shadows like this one. I liked that the angle of the neck so closely matched the angles of the cement tiles, and that the cast shadow did not at all resemble the goose. Similar to another piece I did of a lizard - where the shadow looked like a manta ray. There are no many interesting and natural happenings in nature - all you have to do is take the time to look.

These were both done on Vellum Bristol with pencil.
